“Studying sociology at the University of Winnipeg changed my life!  The classes were small, the professors accessible and inspiring.  I learned to think critically and became motivated to actively make our world a better place. Following my Doctoral studies at the University of Alberta, I eagerly came back to the University of Winnipeg and find great pleasure in inspiring my current sociology students.  You are the future.”

-        Melanie Nimmo, Instructor 2005-06, now Assistant Professor, Criminal Justice

Sociology is the study of human society, a fascinating and exciting area of inquiry.  Students often develop a deep interest in this subject and decide they wish to major in Sociology.  There are many careers for which an undergraduate degree in Sociology offers valuable preparation.

Most teaching and research positions specific to Sociology would require a graduate (Masters or Ph.D.) degree.  The Honours Program in Sociology at the University of Winnipeg offers an excellent background for pursuing advanced educational opportunities.  Many of our graduates go on to enjoy fulfilling academic careers in universities and research centers across Canada and throughout the world.  Some, in fact, have returned to the University of Winnipeg to teach and inspire students like you!
